Custom Seal Manufacturing FAQ

Can you machine a fully custom seal profile — not just standard shapes? +

Yes. We specialize in custom seal profiles that don't exist in any catalog. Our CNC turning and milling centers can produce any 2D profile of revolution (turned) and complex 3D geometries (milled). Send us your drawing, CAD file, or sample — if it can be machined from a polymer, we can make it. We regularly produce custom diaphragms with convoluted profiles, multi-lip seals with undercut geometries, stepped gaskets, and fully bespoke seal profiles designed by our customers' engineering teams.

Can you reverse-engineer a seal from a sample or worn part? +

Absolutely. This is one of our most common services. Send us your worn, broken, or failed seal — we measure critical dimensions on our CMM, identify the original material (with FTIR analysis if needed), and produce an exact replica. We also analyze the failure mode and suggest material or geometry improvements for longer service life. This service is particularly valuable for legacy equipment where original drawings are no longer available.

Do you accept small batch orders — just a few pieces? +

Yes. We accept orders from 1 piece. Unlike large seal manufacturers that require minimum orders of hundreds or thousands, our CNC machining process is efficient at any quantity. We support prototype validation (1-5 pieces), small batch production (10-100 pieces), and full-scale production (1,000+ pieces). The process scales with your needs — start with samples, validate, then ramp up.

How do I know which material is right for my custom seal? +

We provide a material recommendation as part of every quotation. Send us your operating conditions — media type, temperature range, pressure, and whether the seal is static or dynamic — and our engineers will recommend the optimal material with supporting data. We consider chemical compatibility, thermal stability, mechanical strength, wear resistance, regulatory compliance, and cost to give you the best option, not just the most expensive one.

Can you sign an NDA before I share my seal design? +

Yes. We regularly sign mutual NDAs with customers before reviewing proprietary seal designs and drawings. Your intellectual property is protected — we never share, reuse, or manufacture your custom seal design for any other customer. What is your lead time for custom seal projects? +

Lead time varies by complexity: 5-10 days for standard-profile seals (O-rings, guide rings, gaskets) with stock material, 10-15 days for complex profiles (spring energized, V-rings, custom geometries) or non-stock material, and 15-20 days for large assemblies or seals requiring special certifications.
